The book brings together pieces that all share a close connection with the concept of impermanence. These are works in motion, or conversely, they capture a fleeting moment more or less permanently. Capucine also presents a series of photographs taken during a residency in the Yukon territory, where the artist went to document the increasingly visible thawing of the permafrost.
We design for her an object on the boundary of a book. Each chapter is typeset on a different format, and the entire thing is bound by two separate spirals. Just as a tribute to the works it showcases, we aim the book to be as ephemeral as possible, while remaining easy to consult.
The edition also seeks to match the subtle elegance of Capucine's work. We are looking for a simple and minimal composition, relying on the Söhne typeface by Kris Sowersby, distributed by Klim Type Foundry. Only the poems composed by the artist, opening each chapter, are allowed to occupy the entire page space.
Printed in a limited edition of only 100 copies and accompanied by a signed original by the artist, the book is produced using digital printing, with the assistance of an HP Indigo press. This technique ensures surprising reproduction quality of the images and typography. The book remains relatively cost-effective to produce despite its numerous manufacturing specificities.
